Our new studio has now been opened for almost 7 weeks and I'm delighted to have been able to teach a majority of classes. In time, of course there will be other instructors added to the Scooter fold but the advantage for me is that not only I've been able to meet such a great community of people, BUT, I've been able to quietly observe the progress of all our clients. So, I figured my observations might be of interest.
If you've only just joined Scooter Pilates, you might think of this as a sort of crystal ball prediction.
Observation #1 - Strength Gains
Who knew that exercise could make you stronger? Okay I know it's obvious but to see it happen in front of my eyes has been a unique experience. Planks moving from knees to toes, tabletop legs are being extended, side planks are now becoming possible and springs are being increased. Obviously the gains are relative to how often someone attends but even one visit a week has its benefits in the world of pilates. I've heard many clients saying that they feel stronger and that it doesn't take that long.
Observation #2 - Lean Body Tissue
Anyone noticing clothes fitting slightly better or small changes in their shape? We know resistance training develops muscle, burns fat and changes the muscle/fat ratio in the body along with reasonable diet choices. Did you know that muscle growth is more rapid with strength training than other forms of exercise? As an instructor you develop quite an eye for detail and I can already see these changes. Those rewards will be even more significant after 3 months. So, if that's what you are going for, then congratulations, it's happening!!!
Observation #3 - Pelvic Stability
This one kind of fits with the first point but it's quite a significant observation particularly during legs in straps exercises. After the constant reminders about tightening the deep core muscles (T-zone), I'm seeing much more stability in the pelvis area. Stability of the pelvic joints is important so that there isn't excessive movement in the spine. So hooray for our deep core muscles and legs in straps.
Observation #4 - Community
This is actually my favourite observation of all. Many of us are rushing around in our daily lives from point A to point B and C and D like we're on a treadmill that never stops. Sometimes doing exercise classes is the same. Get in. Get out.
But, I've had the benefit of meeting all of you and hearing many wonderful stories. I've seen many of you connect with one another and that my friends is community. This was an important part of why we created Scooter Pilates. Apart from our passion for pilates and its undeniable benefits, we wanted to create a sense of community and a place where people could connect even if it was with a smile and a wave. We all deserve that human connection and after covid it seems more essential than ever before. So cheers to the fabulous Sydney Carlton and beyond crew.
So there you have it. My observations after 7 weeks of being open. A recipe of strength and mobility improvements with a sprinkle of community thrown in. What more could we ask for? Feeling rather proud of the growing Scooter Pilates community and the achievements of our clients.
