Pilates is not just a workout; it's a comprehensive approach to fitness that focuses on building strength, flexibility, and balance. 1) Be Punctual. No. Be Early!

Being 5 minutes early for any pilates class is a huge plus for you and your instructor.

Being early:

  • Allows you to be mentally prepared for the class. You can settle in, and leave your stresses at the door.

  • Your instructor can check in with you regarding any new injuries and your general well-being on the day.

  • You participate in the warm-up, which, gets you, your classmates and the instructor in the "Zone". Let's be frank. A late entrance is distracting for all involved and can interrupt the flow for both the instructor and the participants.

We do understand of course that lateness sometimes can't be helped. We are not robots but as a rule, if you can be a little early you will benefit yourself and those around you.

2) Listen to Your Body

While pushing yourself is essential for progress, it's equally important to listen to your body. Pilates encourages a balance between challenge and respect for your body's limits. If an exercise feels uncomfortable or causes pain your instructor will modify it for you. This mindful approach prevents injuries and ensures a sustainable, long-term practice. Importantly, let the instructor know if something hurts.

3) Consistency is Key

Like any form of exercise, consistency is key to see and feel results of any exercise. Aim for regular sessions to build strength and mobility progressively. Consistency improves your physical abilities and fosters a deeper understanding of Pilates techniques, allowing you to refine your movements and achieve better results over time.

4) Awareness & Connection

Pilates is not just about physical strength and flexibility; it's about enhancing motor skills. Listen to your instructor. Instructors will often layer the movements to allow you to grasp the fundamentals of each exercise especially in a beginners class. Concentrate on the movement involved in each exercise by visualising. This heightened awareness improves your proprioception which leads to improving your form. It will also assist in preventing injuries as you better understand your limits and capabilities. This will profoundly increase the benefit you gain from the class.

And that's it!

Be early. Be mindful. Be consistent. Listen to your body and reap the rewards of your pilates class.
